This is my second mate from thebmate. Here are a few of my thoughts:The size is great for sharing or as a large size that you would sip on individually throughout the morning.The look is traditional and gets lots of looks and questions from people that are not familiar with mate. The leather and metal are luxurious in feel and make me excited to pour another cup! As you continue to pour cycles the mate warms and the leather feels so comfortable in my hand.The ceramic interior is not traditional but is much preferable to me because it requires no special care and does not add any off-flavors that a natural gourd can. It is durable and with the leather wrapping has taken quite a few hits in my matera without cracking .Others have complained about leaves getting up under the metal band around the top. I would agree that I don’t love that however that is normal for any other traditional mate. If that’s not your thing, it may be better to just get a stainless mate. Let’s face it, they just don’t look or feel as cool and the leaves aren’t really a problem. They are just kind of annoying. I would love to see thebmate tackle this issue in the future but for now, this is a solid product . I don’t see any others in the market that are better.
