I got this adapter to allow me to hook up older stereo equipment to the HDMI eARC sound output of my new 4k TV. This adapter essentially lets you use older stereo equipment to get good “home theater” sound out of a TV. The only caution I will add, is that you do need to make sure you have the small switch on this adapter set to “ARC” (i.e. tell this adapter that you want to use the TV’s ARC interface as your sound source).And the first adapter I got worked so well (with our new 4k TV) that I bought a second adapter for an older 1080p TV I also have around the house. So I now have “home theater” level sound on both my newer 4k TV and my older 1080p TV. In the case of the newer TV the sound was run through a 40 year old stereo we were able to salvage, whereas the older TV is now getting sound from two sets of salvaged “powered speakers”.NOTE: This adapter has two different sound output jacks (a headphone jack and the more traditional jacks used to plug into a stereo). And since all sound output jacks are always active, with the right cables you can plug this adapter into two different sound systems at the same time. I found this to be handy in situations where you get better sound quality when you add a second set of speakers. For example, on my older TV I used two different sets of “powered speakers”, and the resulting 4-speaker system resulted in much nicer sound than I got with either set of powered speakers individually.
